Porcelain dental crowns are artificial teeth that are carefully shaped and colored to match your natural teeth

Porcelain dental crowns are artificial teeth that are carefully shaped and colored to match your natural teeth. Crowns, also known as ‘caps,’ restore functionality to severely damaged teeth. Each dental crown is made of a durable porcelain material that offers chewing support and protection from further tooth decay when placed over the existing damaged tooth. Crowns can also be used to anchor a dental bridge. A bridge consists of crowns on either side of a false tooth, known as a pontic. The restoration bridges dental gaps, restoring the appearance and function of the smile while preventing tooth migration. A dental bridge is a less invasive, more affordable alternative to a dental implant; secured on either side by a crown, the pontic hovers in place, secured to the gum tissue with a bonding agent. The procedure for the fitting of these crowns is similar to that of any other crown. The tooth to be treated is cleaned, reshaped, and thus prepared for treatment. The tooth is also a little tapered so that the crown can snugly fit on top of the concerned tooth. With the help of dental putty, an impression of the tooth is taken. The mould is then sent to the laboratory for fabrication of the new crown. In the meantime, the patient gets a temporary crown fitted on the tooth. A period of two to three weeks is required for the crown to be prepared. Then the patients tooth is fitted with the new crown. For this, the dentist roughs up the surface of the affected tooth with the help of etching acid which enables the crown to hold on to the tooth. After the desired fitting is obtained, the crown is firmly fixed with the help of dental cement. Care must be taken to avoid grinding, biting into hard foodstuffs and clenching.

The preparation of a tooth for a gold crown is the simplest and least complicated preparation

A crown is a restoration that covers or caps a tooth, restoring it to its normal size and shape while strengthening it and improving its appearance. Crowns are necessary when the tooth is broken down to the point where a filling won't be effective. Metal crowns are made entirely of a metal alloy that may include gold, platinum, palladium, or other elements. Compared with other kinds of crowns, metal crowns preserve more of the tooth structure. They withstand biting and chewing forces well and rarely chip or break. The biggest drawback of metal crowns is the metallic color. The preparation of a tooth for a gold crown is the simplest and least complicated preparation as there is minimal tooth structure removal with as much as possible of the healthy tooth structure remaining untouched. While porcelain is hard by comparison, it may cause wear on opposing teeth over the years where gold is not as likely to do so. Gold is also easier to fit to the area where the tooth and crown meet for a better fit. Gold is also a healthier environment for the gum tissue.

Dental veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored material designed to cover the front surface of teeth

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored material designed to cover the front surface of teeth. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size or length and resulting in a greatly improved appearance. Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are sometimes thinner and may require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement, but every case is different. Veneers offer several advantages over crowns; veneers are more durable, often do not require much (if any) removal of the natural tooth material, and will not stain or change color—and they tend to cost less. We will be happy to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you. Call to schedule your consultation appointment today!

A Dental Implant is a small titanium fixture that serves as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth

A Dental Implant is a small titanium fixture that serves as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth. The implant will naturally bond with the bone over time and will serve as an anchor for the replacement tooth. Dental implants can be used to replace a single lost tooth, several missing teeth, or can even replace all missing teeth. Unlike dentures and bridgework, implants are a solution proven by experience to last for many years. They look and feel like your natural teeth, and eliminate the worry of slipping or coming loose. For more than two decades, dental implants have been used successfully with people just like you — a safe, medically proven alternative that delivers confident living.

Dental implants are surgically implanted in the jaw to provide a comfortable, secure fit and a natural look

Dental implants are surgically implanted in the jaw to provide a comfortable, secure fit and a natural look. Implants can support replacements for one tooth, several teeth, or even all of the teeth. Dental implants deliver outstanding results in both appearance and function of the new teeth. The healthiest thing to do when you lose a tooth is to have it replaced. Otherwise, you risk problems with biting, chewing and speaking, headaches, muscle pain and an unattractive appearance. Dental implants provide a comfortable, secure, natural-looking solution for tooth replacement to retain function and aesthetics and preserve bone structure. Dental implants serve as the base for many tooth-replacement options, including bridges, dentures and individual artificial teeth. Implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing
